écœurer
To bug, tease or bother someone until they get mad. 'Se faire écœurer' means getting picked on.
Il arrête pas de m'écœurer dans l'autobus. (He keeps bugging me on the bus.)
For parents and educators
Between siblings or friends it's usually normal teasing. If your child says they get 'écœuré' by the same kids again and again, that can be bullying.
If you’re worried
Ask calmly who, where and how often. Keep notes and talk to the school. Kids can reach Kids Help Phone at 1-800-668-6868 or text 686868.
Where it came from
Québec use of the French verb for 'to sicken'. Milder in Québec than in France.
Also heard as
se faire écœurer, arrête de m'écœurer
