AI girlfriend

A chatbot set up to act like a friend, girlfriend or boyfriend, that chats, flirts and remembers what you tell it.

He spends more time texting his AI girlfriend than us.

For parents and educators

Common Sense Media recommends that no one under 18 use AI companion apps: testers found sexual content, harmful advice and emotional manipulation. Many teens use them for fun, but a kid who prefers the bot to real people, or who hides it, may be lonely. Ask with curiosity, not mockery.

If you’re worried

If your child seems withdrawn, very attached to a chatbot, or a bot is saying harmful things to them, talk calmly and consider their doctor. Kids Help Phone: 1-800-668-6868 or text 686868. In crisis, call or text 988.

Where it came from

Companion chatbot apps took off from around 2023. A 2025 Common Sense Media survey found most US teens had tried an AI companion.
