burner account

A temporary or anonymous account made so nobody knows who is behind it.

Somebody made a burner just to comment on my posts.

For parents and educators

Teens often want privacy for normal reasons. Burners can also be used to dodge parental controls, or to bully someone without being caught. If your child is being harassed by one, that is worth acting on.

Where it came from

From "burner phone", a cheap phone you throw away.

Also heard as

burner, throwaway account, sockpuppet
