deepfake

A fake photo, video or voice made with AI to look like a real person. Among students, the biggest worry is fake sexual images of classmates.

Everyone's saying it's a deepfake, she never took that picture.

For parents and educators

In Canada, any sexual image of a minor is illegal, even if it is fake. Cybertip.ca handles thousands of these reports, and they are used to bully, harass and extort kids. Victims are not to blame. Tell your child that making or sharing one, even as a joke, causes real harm and is a crime.

If you’re worried

Do not share the image further. Report it at Cybertip.ca, which can help get it removed. NeedHelpNow.ca helps with removal. Tell the school and police. Kids Help Phone: 1-800-668-6868 or text 686868.

Where it came from

From "deep learning" plus "fake". Fake nude images of students have hit Canadian schools since 2023.
