A supposed type of man who is successful, independent and a loner. Among younger kids it is mostly a meme word meaning "cool."

For parents and educators

For most kids under 13 it is a silly compliment with no ideology behind it. With older boys it can come bundled with lectures about dominance and how women should be treated. Ask what a sigma is to them; the answer tells you which version they are hearing.

Where it came from

Coined by a far-right blogger in 2010 and turned into a mostly ironic meme around 2021.
