osti

One of the most common Québec swear words (from 'hostie', the communion wafer). Used for frustration, surprise or emphasis. Often typed as 'sti'.

Osti, j'ai oublié mon lunch. (Damn, I forgot my lunch.)

For parents and educators

It's swearing, so it's about your house rules. It's not aimed at anyone, unlike an insult. 'Sti' in a text is the same word.

Where it came from

Québec swearing ('sacres') is built from Catholic church words.

Also heard as

esti, ostie, stie, sti
