NPC

Stands for "non-playable character" from video games. Calling a person an NPC means they seem boring, robotic or unable to think for themselves.

He just copies whatever everyone else says, total NPC.

For parents and educators

Often a light joke, and kids also use it about themselves when they feel awkward. Used repeatedly against one child, it is a way of saying they do not matter. Ask who gets called that at school and how they react.

Where it came from

Gaming term turned into an insult on internet forums in 2018, then mainstream on TikTok.
