daron

Slang for dad ('daron') or mom ('daronne'). 'Mes darons' means 'my parents'.

Ma daronne veut pas que je sorte ce soir. (My mom won't let me go out tonight.)

For parents and educators

Not disrespectful in itself. If your kid calls you 'la daronne', you've been noticed.

Where it came from

Old French slang, revived by French rap and YouTube and picked up by Québec teens.

Also heard as

daronne, mes darons
