Roblox shutdown hoax

A viral screenshot claimed Roblox would shut down on January 1st, but it came from a parody account and the company announced nothing of the kind.

Should I worry?

There is nothing to protect your child from here: Roblox is not shutting down. The fake notice came from an account labelled as parody, it had spelling mistakes, and no news outlet or official company page reported it. Your child may be upset about losing their avatar, items or friends, so listen to that worry. Look at the fact-check together and show them how a joke post can look official. If a message about "saving" an account or items ever asks for a password or a click, treat that as a separate warning sign.

How to join in

It is a joke screenshot that spread fast because Roblox matters a lot to the kids who play it. Many shared it half in panic and half for laughs. A good way in is to ask what they would miss most if it vanished, or which games they would want to save. Then ask how they decided whether the post was real.

Try saying

“I saw people saying Roblox is shutting down on January 1st, and it turns out that's a fake post from a parody account. Did you see it? If something like that ever worries you, we can check it together before you believe it.”
