SMP
Survival Multiplayer. A Minecraft world where several players survive and build together. Many popular YouTubers run their own SMPs with storylines.
Can I join my friend's SMP after supper? We're building a castle.
For parents and educators
Playing on a small server with friends you know is generally low risk. Large public SMPs bring in strangers and chat, so it helps to know who runs the server and whether there is voice chat.
Where it came from
Minecraft community term. The Dream SMP, a roleplay server streamed from 2020 to 2023, made it famous.
