noob
A beginner, or someone who plays badly. Used for any new or clumsy person, not only in games.
Don't laugh, I'm a total noob at skating.
For parents and educators
A UK survey found it was the gaming word parents heard most from kids. Usually light teasing. Used to pile on one player again and again, it becomes a put-down.
Where it came from
From newbie, an old word for a newcomer, shortened in online games.
Also heard as
newbie, newb, nub, n00b
