chicane
A fight or argument, especially between kids or friends. 'Se chicaner' is to argue; 'être en chicane' is to be on the outs with someone.
Je suis en chicane avec ma meilleure amie depuis lundi. (I've been fighting with my best friend since Monday.)
For parents and educators
Normal. A long 'chicane' in a friend group, especially if it spills into group chats, is worth checking in about.
Where it came from
An old French word that stayed in everyday Québec speech.
Also heard as
se chicaner, être en chicane, pas de chicane dans ma cabane
