battle pass
A paid bundle of rewards that unlocks as you play during one season of a game, like Fortnite. A new one comes out every season.
I have to grind the battle pass before the season ends or I lose the skin.
For parents and educators
It is designed to bring kids back every day, and the season deadline creates fear of missing out. Agreeing at the start of each season on whether the pass is worth buying works better than arguing at the end.
Where it came from
Popularized by Fortnite in the late 2010s and now used by many games.
