Five Nights at Freddy's (FNAF)
Five Nights at Freddy's is a long-running horror game series whose jumpscare videos are hugely popular on YouTube; it's harmless fun for most kids, but the sudden scares can rattle younger ones.
Should I worry?
There is no real danger here, but the scares are loud and sudden, and YouTube's autoplay can send a younger child from a mild video to a much creepier one. Watch for trouble sleeping, jumpiness, or a child who says they love it but looks tense while watching. If that happens, switch off autoplay, watch together, and take a break from the videos. Using the age settings or YouTube Kids can also help.
How to join in
FNAF is a horror series where you play a night guard watching over animatronic characters that come alive. Kids love the suspense, the lore and the shared thrill of being scared together. Many watch popular creators react to the games or play them as a group. A good way in: ask them to explain the story, or watch one video together and let them tell you which part is the scariest.
Try saying
“I saw FNAF is really popular right now. Can you tell me what it's about? And if a video ever scares you more than you expected, you can always tell me or turn it off, no big deal.”
